Operators ar haemorrhage revenue to immoderate players, and promise their hopes on the GSMA-based Joyn normal, but a year after launch platform developer OpenCloud thinks the GSMA might be the matter instead of the solution.
Not that the GMSA is deliberately frustrating innovation, but OpenCloud's Mark Windle reckons the culture of internationally agreed standards and glacial certification is fatally slowing development of operator solutions, putting them at the mercy of internet corporations UN agency will inevitably out-innovate and scale back operators to the status of bit pipes.
OpenCloud should grasp. It provides application servers to network operators from China to the USA, via Japan, and says that whereas the company's JSLEE-compatible servers provide the speedy development of recent applications, operators ar proving astonishingly slow to initiate within the most important area of their business: voice.
Joyn, additionally referred to as rich Communication Services (RCS) is the network operators' answer to Skype, Viber and all the opposite OTT players that ar denying them the voice revenue upon which they still rely, but getting (or keeping) customers on board will take over replication of existing services.

Windle is unimpressed: "It's absurd how little innovation has occurred within the core business." but when it involves why he reckons it’s the will for standardisation which is at fault, that the requirement for ability not only slows down development but additionally prevents differentiation by making certain everyone launches constant thing at constant time.
"When we glance at innovation on the internetb|the net} we see that Apple... Google... Skype... all of them own their own platforms and might initiate as they need, driving their own development ... maybe [operators] shouldn't be thus quick to leap into bed with the competition."
